Under the Radar
Fifty participating faculty and graduate student artists from OCAD University selected a piece to include in a barter exhibition. This small-works show culminated in an event wherein the artists negotiated trades nonverbally, through a mail-delivery-system-sculptural-object, devised to transport expressions of interest in the form of hand written notes. A merging of the methods drawn from art auction houses and speed dating events, this project investigated grey market (cashless) economic activity as participants simultaneously held a variety of roles –artist, dealmaker and collector. It investigated themes of exchange, desire, value, risk, exposure, and community.
